Introduction:

  • Pedodontia is an art and science that reulates and diagnosis, interception & treatment of oral abnormalities, diseases and injuries major responsibilities include the guidance of child and parents to obtain the optimum oral health of child as well as recognition of need of co-operative therapy and the other specialties to achieve on aesthetically and functionary acceptable occlusion.
  • The Department of Pedodontics and preventive dentistry deals with the pediatric outpatients and guides them to the respective department for the treatments.
  • The main strength or the functioning is basically, oral, dental, and psychological evaluation of individual patients of various pediatric age groups with oral conditions and also oral manifestations of various systemic diseases, inflammatory lesions like swellings, ulcers, growths, precancerous lesions and precancerous conditions, jaw fractures, developmental anomalies etc.
  • The Department also attends to making radiographs of various kinds, providing services to special children like handicapped, medically or physically compromised pediatric patients.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF PEDIATRIC & PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY:

  • To train the students to diagnose the common disorders of Orofacial region in pediatric patients by clinical examination and with the help of such investigations as may be required and medical management of orofacial disorders with therapeutic management by means of operative, surgical and medicinal agents.
  • To train the students about the importance, role, use and techniques of behavior management, radiographs and other treatment modalities in the subject.
  • The basic aim is to create not only good patients but also a good citizen of tomorrow.
  • Install a positive attitude and behavior.

OBJECTIVES OF PEDODONTICS AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY:

  • To emulate a sense of service and to harness the sense of dignity and discipline among the students.
  • To inculcate in the students the appropriate doctor patient relationship and interactions.
  • To extend the education of highest quality and standard which matches the global standard to the student at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • To impart quality oro-facial and dental diagnostic as well as therapeutic services to patients.
  • To identify the relations of oral and systemic health.
  • To manage pharmaco-therapeutics essential for treatment of oral and systemic diseases.
  • To introduce positive attitude and principles of preventive and prevention dentistry right from birth.
  • Parental guidelines and counseling in regards to various treatment modalities including different favors of preventive dentistry.
  • Repair and restore lost tooth structure to maintain tissue harmony between hard and soft tissues.
  • Early diagnosis of disease and its treatment of developing malocclusion.
  • Occlusal guidance and early treatment of developing malocclusion.
  • Managing physically and mentally subnormal children of the society.
